Our kitchen remodel- Demo phase
We have several cabinets, a few walls, and the soffits torn
out of our kitchen. We found we will need a bit more dry wall repair than we
had hoped. There were also some problems with wiring that we thought may
require an electrician but my husband now thinks he will be able to handle
it. We are about a day or two behind
though. We had hoped to have the recessed lights put in by today.
I would like to share the colors of our counters, backsplash
and cabinets.
Our cabinets are from Scroll’s cabinets. More on them later.
All of the perimeter cabinets will be painted oyster- a cream color. I don’t
have a sample of oyster. Our island will
be painted in prairie skye, which is an interesting light blue, green, gray
that seems to change with the light or with other colors placed near it.
The counters are granite, called Blue Pearl, which is warm
gray with black and blue accents. It is
more neutral than it may seem.It makes me smile.
Our backsplash combines a warm beige/gray field tile, which will set on the diagonal, accented with squares of small glass and stone mosaic tiles. The window bay will be surrounded by the mosaic tiles.
Looking at these colors helps me remember how much I am
going to enjoy the finished product. I know some people may not like my
choices. They are not the safest and the most neutral. We love blue and even
though I felt like perhaps I should choose something more neutral we decided to go with what we wanted.
My kitchen is not looking so great right now but I am confident it will.
I am thankful that my husband can figure out all the issues that come up!
Please let me know what you think of everything so far!

I'm SO pleased you chose the blue pearl granite! I know you truly loved it best. I say you don't redecorate for the next owners unless you're moving within 3 years. Otherwise, your first concern should be your own needs and desires. With as much as you cook, you spend as much time in your kitchen as you do your bedroom, so those two rooms should be designed to make you as happy as can be! So blue pearl granite. Yay!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do agree that I need to like it more than I need to make it sellable for 12-15 years down the road. I also hope it will not be so hard for the next owners to like though. I would say there are a lot of people who would be drawn to it and gray is a big selling color right now. It could almost be called gray :-) I may be drawing more blue out with paint but that is easily changed. Hopefully this will not keep it from selling and yes, that is 12 or more years in the future so you are right, I should pick things I like. And yes, I do Love it!Thanks!
DeleteI love your granite!! I have never seen the beautiful blue granite you have chosen... it's really pretty and I love the back-splash. I am getting so excited to see it all come together... I can just imagine how excited you are! :) Have a great week! ~ Ramona
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ramona! I am happy for the future and trying not to get focused on what is going on now. I am trying to think of it like camping while still getting to sleep in a bed and have a nice bathroom :-) Our house is full of dust and the old cabinets are in the living room but I still have my refridgerator and once the dust is less, I could use my oven. Mostly now, we can ook and eat outside and it is so lovely with all the beautiful trees and flowers so no worries there. My poor mom is a bit confused by all this but she is a little trooper. I think the weather will be nice for taking the little ones I watch to the park so all is good...let's hope it doesn't snow this week :-)Funny how that is still possible with our hot weather and full leaves!
DeleteOh wow! That must be both exhilarating and intimidating :) Love the mosaic tiles :)
ReplyDeleteExactly! It feels a bit overwhelming at the moment and then when I am telling s neighbor or friend about it, I am so looking forward to it. Glad you like the mosaic tiles, I really wanted some in my backsplash and I am really excited to see how it turns out!
DeleteI love that you aren't going too safe. I love the mosaic tiles for the back splash. Can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteThank you, making these choices can be a bit scary, not knowing how it will all look and not sure if it will appeal but I feel good that I chose things that really fit me...at least so far- now I am on to choosing paint and lights 0_0
DeleteI'm excited to see the finished product...keep up the good work, mom and dad!
ReplyDeleteAww, that is so sweet of you to comment!! You are such a help in all this, we could not do it without you!
DeleteThank you so much for your visit and wonderful comment. It's so nice to meet you. We went through the kitchen remodel five years ago. It's like childbirth. Once the pain is over you just love your baby. You're going to be ecstatic in a little while.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love visiting your blog!! That is a good analogy to remember. This will result in something beautiful that I will love :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm a little bit envious, your kitchen is going to look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteWhoa! Your kitchen is already in a big construction! I love your mosaic backsplash. It's fun time and I'm jealous you are getting new kitchen! ^_^ Keep us posted. It's fun checking your kitchen having makeover!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Nami. Yes, it is even further now. I am going to visit friends so I can cook dinner at their houses :-) I am glad you love the mosaic.
DeleteSo far so good. Look soft and restful colours and the tea and coffee stains won't show on that granite.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good. Restful colours.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the castles. There are many of my blog if you click on sidebar.
Since we also went with Blue Pearl granite for our kitchen, I must commend you on your choice :) . Ours is set against Bamboo Shoot paint (from Ace), white cabinets (Martha Stewart's Seal Harbor in White Picket), white Blanco Diamond Silgranit Super Single sink, hardware is all Oil-Rubbed Bronze, appliances all black, and floor is Steel Emser tile. After a full year, I abolutely LOVE it!!!! I can say this though, I've seen the granite in my local library but yet in another kitchen which makes my choice all the more precious to me. Like your choices and can't wait to see the finished result. We couldn't choose on a backsplash and hope that it'll be the finishing touch to our kitchen.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the mosaic tiles? I've been looking for one that I loved.... and you found it. Any help is appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI got them at a local store here in Colorado. Let me see if I can find the information on them and I will post it here. Hopefully you can find it .
DeleteWere you able to find any information on the mosaic tiles?
DeleteHi, we are getting close to finding it! My friend, the designer who found it for us, is going to look up the color when she is at work tomorrow. She knows it is from the Eclipse line of tile. Stone and glass mosaic. I hope I will have the name by tomorrow morning! :-)
Deleteokay, finally tracked down the name!! It is Merina from eclipse tile. My designer friend says that it may have different names at different vendors but if you look at eclipse glass/stone mosiacs you should find it no problem! I hope you create a wonderful kitchen that you love!
DeleteThank you soooo much!! :-)
DeleteWow! It looks fantastic. I wish I knew how to do all that! thanks for sharing.I am your newest follower. Visiting from SNS linky. Hope you can visit me sometime.
